A New Day
A day well spent volunteering at the Queens County Farm Museum

As I start a new chapter in my life, I am reminded of the axiom, “Today is the first day of the rest of our lives.”
With that in mind, I decided to challenge myself and learn deeper about how I could live a more sustainable life. But for that, I had to go back in my memories to my humble roots—growing up in Chile, where I lived a simple life with minimum resources and restrictive political freedoms. I was reminded of how my family supported us and gave us a happy childhood under those conditions.
Realizing that I had exercised a sustainable way of life before, I wanted to engage in a more mindful practice of it in my adult life. This inspired me to launch my channel, "Alibe’s Sustainable World."
Today, in celebration of International Earth Day 2021, I renew and strengthen my commitment to the planet. And I hope my channel will also serve as an inspiration to you, my viewers, readers, and followers.
I think on all of this as I offer a day of service at the Queens County Farm Museum to honor the symbolism of Earth Day. Though my actions are modest, I embrace them with great enthusiasm. I also welcome the teachings and resources this local nonprofit offers the community at large, from educating young people about farming, horticulture, and ecology to supplying NYC’s food pantries with homegrown produce and eggs. This wonderful organization makes a difference in the midst of one of the most challenging times our generation has live through, and they are doing it all in one of the most diverse boroughs in one of the greatest cities in the world!
While donning my farmer’s cap and while digging in the dirt, I celebrate the launch of my channel and the journey that awaits. Here, I will explore how NGOs, corporations, local government, and regular folks are working hard to make a sustainable difference. I will also dig a little deeper to share the lessons I learn and the practices I adopt to respond to climate change. I will work alongside you today so that we all may enjoy the planet for the rest of our lives. After all, today is the first day in the lives of future generations, too.
It is your planet, it is my planet, it is our planet!
